BEQ 2011 Finals


                                                         A Day @ Hilton Chennai


  
 Finals started with the grand entry of Derek O Brien, current MP. He explained a little bit brief on the history of Brand Equity Quiz which started its appearance in the year 1990, thereby entering the 20th year this time. He first introduced the first four teams which were Crisil, Cognizant,Infosys, Sanmar, and TCS. Thus totally six teams made it to stage. Derek gave the gift prizes to the 7thseeded TS Mahalingam & Sons and 8th seeded Infosys.  

The finals started with first round which was tilted as ‘Yeh hi hai Right choice baby’
In that round three options A, B, C were given to select an answer for a question. The left of three options there were small pics of closed pepsi bottles. If a glass break sound was heard, then the answer was wrong. If a bottle open sound was heard, then the given answer was correct.

The second round was started in an anticlockwise man. They are below.

The third round was titled as ‘Bulard Bharat Ki Buland Tasveer Hamara Bajaj. It mainly contained picture questions
1. A photo containing products of a baked product was arranged one after another just like a book.
2. The Logo of a famous car company was removed from the car normally used in grand prix?
3. John Grisham’s book cover was shown with Joel Backman. What was the name of the novel?
4. The logo of Steel Authority of India was showed. What were the two words to be missed after the logo?

Round 4:
This was the most important round in buzzer must have been used but Derek forgot it and used it as a normal one unlike previous years.
1. Being fashionately fond of crystals, He was held up for having a baggage with crystals at the airport? He ditched the bag and carried the crystals? Identify the person?
2. According to Tom Peters, the long time definition of a boss is ‘CHRO’. If C refers to Chief, O refers to officer, and then what does the word ‘HR’ refers to?
3. In Hindu Mythology, who gave concord lands to kariappa and gold to Brahmans?
4. Close to Venice, Murano Glass blowing was always end up doing a flask? What particular flask are we speaking?
5. If it does n’t sell, it is n’t ________?

Round 5 five was the superb round, as it was the very final to select a winner. More over, it contained audio and video. Most importantly, it was a buzzer round. The title of the round was ‘Dodh ki sa fedi nirma se ayt rangeen kapra bhi jhilmil jaye’
1. Audio was played from the movie 3 idiots which contained a person explaining a model in the college. The question was, “Identify the person?
2.  Women showing an Ad for jeans was given. It was known as ‘forever in jeans’. Identify the suit was the question
3. A video clip was shown with Actor Shia LaBeouf speaking to a bald man and another old man at an investment bank?   
4. Audio was played with the Introduction music of Twentieth century fox (TCF). Which was the first movie to incorporate TCF in a movie?
5. A video clip of a recent phone hacking scandal person was shown with him making some statements?

These were followed by further easy ones. For these questions below mobile phones were given by quizmaster for their help to find the answer.
1. In 2010, who was the most searched popstar on google? 
2. A retail store which commonly refers to ‘building’ actually sells reduced prices?
3. In 1896, collapsible tube was first used? Next which was used in it?

At the end of this question, Infosys left their seat to placed at sixth position. They were further followed by Global scholars who finished at fifth position. Below question were cryptic based ones asked to select the winner as four teams were tied with same points.

2. The Latin name Augeo Auctics commonly refers to increase? Which botanical name does it refer to?
3. Which entertainment company connects Jwala, Kaddi and Kashmiri?
4. Which American chocolate refers to ‘Sweetest place on earth’?

Thus the quiz finally ended with Sanmar finishing at 4th place. 3rd and 2rd were taken by CTS and TCS respectively. Crisil took the first prize and became the first team to qualify for national finals.

BEQ 2011 prelims


 Now I present you the complete package what actually happened in THE BRAND EQUITY QUIZ 11 prelims in Hilton Chennai based on my own memory retention. The prelims of the quiz started much bit lately at 6.50 PM against expected stipulated time of 6PM. Though the audience were in few numbers, but the entertainment provided was a totally unforgettable one. The preliminary was organised by Mr. V. Stevens, one of Derek O’ Brien’s associates. The prelim was a bit crack able one with a mixture of business and various other areas. Now I provide the preliminary outlines in the further lines. The rules were clearly outlined by Stevens with totally 30 questions. The first 25 questions each carried one mark each while the last 5 questions were known as Idea Zone which was used in case of a tiebreaker. These 5 Idea Zone questions carried two marks each. Thus totally prelims carried 35 marks.
Here below are the much anticipated questions from this year’s quiz. Certain questions were asked with multiple choice options. I use below the word ‘ops’ to refer to them if asked in a question.

Below five questions comprised as Idea Zone. It carried 2 marks.

Try cracking the answers for the 30 questions; if you could atleast get 20 questions correct, then you are great wizard just like our harry potter. Thus ended the prelims with quiz master asking the audience and team members to have a refreshment. The refreshment was really a unforgettable one as everyone were given cocktail juice, Apple juice, Non vegetarian rolls, Veg and Non veg sandwitches and vadas and cookies in form of a great buffet system. At end of it, a bell was rung by the people who’d been meant to look after there. “Come everyone inside,” said Stevens. “We are going to start the finals.” Thus we entered to watch the nail biting finals.
